What is Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is a disease caused by abnormal growth of cells in cervix (lower part of the uterus) area of. Early stage or precancerous cervical cancer is almost 100% curable and the survival rate can be 91%.

Earliest stage of cervical cancer is known as cervical dysplasia. This stage is not malignant (cancerous) yet because the cells remain on the surface of cervix without affecting healthy tissue. In other words, female may contract HPVs (causing genital warts) but not necessarily they would get cervical cancer.

The exact cause of cervical cancer are still unknown besides due to HPV infection. However, there are risk factors that can expose a female to contracting cervical cancer.
