Cervical cancer is a disease caused by abnormal growth of cells in cervix (lower part of the uterus) area of. Early stage or precancerous cervical cancer is almost 100% curable and the survival rate can be 91%.

Earliest stage of cervical cancer is known as cervical dysplasia. This stage is not malignant (cancerous) yet because the cells remain on the surface of cervix without affecting healthy tissue. In other words, female may contract HPVs (causing genital warts) but not necessarily they would get cervical cancer.

The exact cause of cervical cancer are still unknown besides due to HPV infection. However, there are risk factors that can expose a female to contracting cervical cancer.

Cancer is not a new disease. It exists several centuries ago but this term is still a fear factor today! The word cancer was named by Father of medicine, a Greek physician named Hippocrates. However, he is not the first person who discovered this disease. Hippocrates believed that human body is composed of four fluids, which are blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. He believed that excess of black gile can cause cancer. Hence the thought that cancer spreads like 'liquid'. Later, a Germany surgeon named Karl Thiersch found that spreading of cancer is due to malignant cells. Today, cancer is still a fact that is fearful.

Pap what? Smearing what with a thing called pap? Pap Smear test is an important test for all the women. Pap test or Pap Smear test, or what the men in white lab coats refer (when they flaunt their medical vocabularies) to as Papanicolaou test, is a screening test with one aim: to prevent cervical cancer risk. The test detects possible presence of abnormal cervical cancer cells processes in the ectocervix can be detected through the test. Therefore, cervical cancer can be prevented through doing a Pap test.
